Remembering to have a passion

Having not been able to ride, for several reasons, has really made forget how much having a passion picks you up.

Today, Bank Holiday Monday, after another night of broken sleep, I spent the day at the yard for the first time in months.

I didn’t ride but helped my friend and yard owner, Katie. I love watching them ride. I’ve known Rocko, her horse, since the day she got him. Almost 9 years ago. He’s the reason we became friends. Her mum, shoving me into this wild yearling’s stable saying, “You’re good with youngsters.” Katie was climbing the wall, ready to leap out of the stable. Rocko was not easy.

Today, I was just helping set out poles. Pick up dropped phones. And take a few videos. Rocko is phenomenal. It’s been so much fun to watch him develop with Katie. Most of all it reminded me how much I just love being around the horses. Even when I’m not riding. It’s the absolute best distraction to give my rambling head some quiet. A passion that keeps me from going overly crazy with life.

That’s why remembering to have a passion is so important. Whatever it is.
